Checking and receiving mail

Logging in to Webmail


You will need a username and password before you can log in to Webmail. Click the sign up for a free email address link on the ourbrisbane.com home page.

When you have your username and password, go to Webmail.

Type your username and password in the boxes and click Go. Webmail will open at your Mail Inbox screen and display your messages.


Reading messages

When you log in to Webmail, the Inbox page appears. This page displays a list of your new and unfiled messages.
  • click the message you want to read. The contents of the message will be displayed in the Preview Pane
  • to read another message, simply click on it


Viewing attachments

Webmail indicates whether a message has one or more attachments in the Preview Pane by listing the name, size and type of attachment under the Subject line of the displayed message. To view an attachment, click on it.
  • The attachment will be displayed in the relevant application. For example, a document with a .doc extension will be displayed in the version of Word you have installed on your computer. In some cases the file will open in your browser.

Note: You may be prompted by your web browser to set up a viewer. Refer to your web browser for instructions.


Checking for new messages

New messages can arrive in your inbox while you are viewing the message list. Use the checking facility to find out if you have received any new messages.
  • on the Inbox screen, click on Check Mail
  • the Inbox screen will 'refresh' and any new messages will be displayed


Searching for a message


You can search for messages that contain a particular word or phrase in their subject.
  • in the box next to the word Subject on the title bar of Webmail, type in the text you are looking for
  • a list of all messages matching your search criteria will be displayed
  • from this list you can select a message to view.

Logging out of Webmail


When you log out of Webmail you are returned to the ourbrisbane.com home page.
  • close the window that contains Webmail

  • on any ourbrisbane.com page, click on the Sign Out link on the top right hand side of the page.



Deleting messages


When you click Delete the message is moved from the current folder and a backup copy is placed in the Deleted folder. To delete messages from any folder
  • select the message or messages that you want to delete
  • to select a single message, click on it
  • to select all messages, choose Select All from the Edit menu
  • click Delete

The message or messages will be sent to the Trash folder.

To remove deleted messages from the Trash folder:
  • click the Trash folder to see your deleted messages
  • click on the Edit menu and select Empty Trash from the menu options

Note: When the message or messages are deleted from the Trash a backup copy is not saved and the deleted messages can not be retrieved. Your Trash will be emptied each time you log out of ourbrisbane.com.


Saving attached files


If you receive an attached file, including a GIF or JPEG file, you can save it to a disk connected to your computer.
To save an attachment:
  • right click on the name of the attached file in the Preview Pane
  • from the menu, choose Save Target As
  • a Save As dialogue box appears
  • select the folder where you want to save the file
  • click Save
