Add or edit a directory listing
It’s free to list your business or community group in the
ourbrisbane.com
Directory. This means your organisation can be viewed by the thousands
of people who visit ourbrisbane.com each week.
All changes and additions to the directory listings are reviewed for
completeness and accuracy. Incomplete or suspicious listings will not
be included in the directory listing unless further substantiation is
provided.
Approved listings may take up to two working days to appear in the ourbrisbane.com
Directory.
Help is available on this page for the following topics:
Check for current listings in
the Directory Before you add a new listing, you must
check to see if your organisation is already listed in the Directory.
If it is listed, you can update the existing details instead of adding
a new listing.
1. Enter your organisation’s name (the name your organisation trades
under).
2. Enter your organisation’s phone number (the main, publicly available
phone number).
3. Select the “Check details” button.
Three possible situations may arise from your search:
No match found
No organisations matching the name or phone number you entered appear
in the Directory. You can continue to add a new listing by selecting
the “Add a new listing” button.
Possible match found
Any Directory listings that closely match the organisation name or phone
number you’ve entered, will be displayed in a list.
If you see a listing that appears to belong to your organisation, select
it from the list. If you select a listing and then find out it doesn’t
match your organisation, use your Internet browser’s “Back” button
to return to the list of possible matches.
If there is no listing for your organisation, select the “Add a
new listing” button below the list to create a new listing.
Please note you should only edit an existing listing if it clearly matches
your organisation. You can check if the organisation listed is yours
by referring to the organisation’s address.
Editing a listing belonging to another organisation will delay the approval
process for your listing.
Listing already claimed
When a listing is edited or added to the Directory, future changes to
that listing are restricted to the ourbrisbane.com user who submitted
the change or addition.
If you believe someone has incorrectly claimed your listing,
contact
us for further help.
If another person in your organisation has claimed your listing but are
unavailable to make changes, you can have the ownership transferred to
your ourbrisbane.com membership.
Contact
us for help in this situation.
Help is also
available if you can’t remember your ourbrisbane.com login password.
Step 1 of 6: Add a listing for your organisation
Your listing details are important – the more information you provide,
the more likely it is that people will contact you.
You need to accurately complete each section of this form.
“Organisation details to appear in the Directory” section
| Organisation name |
The name of your business or group, as it should
appear in the Directory.
- avoid using only CAPITAL LETTERS
- don’t abbreviate your organisation name
- businesses should use their “trading as” name
rather than company name
|
| Business or community group |
Specify if your organisation is primarily a business,
or a community group. If you’re unsure, leave this set to “business”.
|
| Phone 1 |
The main phone number for your organisation. This
should be the number you want people within Brisbane to call. |
| Phone 2 |
Enter a mobile, toll-free or secondary phone number
here, where applicable. |
| Fax |
Your fax machine must be in the Brisbane (07) region.
If you don’t have a fax, leave this field blank. |
| Email |
Enter the most appropriate email address for sales
or enquiries. |
| Web address |
If your organisation has a website, enter the address
here. Make sure you include http:// at the beginning.
If you don’t have a website, leave this field blank. |
| I agree to allow my organisation details
to be published in other directories |
ourbrisbane.com may wish to offer your listing details
to other directories in the future. If you would prefer ourbrisbane.com
to not publicise your listing in other directories, uncheck this
box. If you change your mind about this in the future, you can
edit your listing details with us.
More information about our use of your information is available
in our privacy policy.
|
“Physical location” section
Please note: We need to know your physical location for this section,
rather than your postal address. Postal addresses and PO Box addresses
will not be accepted. This is to ensure that your business or community
group is indeed located in Brisbane City, or the immediate area.
Providing a valid physical address helps ensure a map can be displayed
with your listing.
This address will not be used by ourbrisbane.com for communication, or
any other purpose.
| Display in Directory |
You may choose not to display a physical address
in the Directory. This might be suitable if you work from home
or a mobile office. Even if you choose not to publish your address,
ourbrisbane.com still requires your address as confirmation that
you are based in the Brisbane area.
|
| Building/Shop/Unit |
Examples for this field:
- Shop B12, Jones Shopping Centre
- Unit 24
- Floor 5
- Smith Building
- Level 5, Smith Building
|
| Street no. |
Enter your street number. Examples:
|
| Street name |
Enter the name of your street. If you live in a street
with a directional suffix, such as Robinson Road East, enter “Robinson” and
select “Road East” as the Street type. |
| Street type |
Choose the type of street from the list available. |
| Suburb |
Choose the suburb from the list. The ourbrisbane.com
Directory only promotes businesses and groups located in the Brisbane
region. |
“Contact person” section
| Contact person |
Enter the name of the person in your organisation
responsible for maintaining this listing. This person’s name
will only be available to ourbrisbane.com staff who may need to
get in touch with your organisation.
This person’s name will not be visible to users of the Directory.
|
| Phone number |
Provide the most appropriate phone number we can
use to reach the nominated contact person.
This phone number will not be visible to users of the Directory.
|
| Email |
Enter the most appropriate email address for the
nominated contact person. If they don’t have an email address
with your organisation, you should enter the listing owner’s
ourbrisbane.com email address.
This email address will not be visible to users of the Directory.
|
Step 2 of 6: Place your organisation in products
and services categories
Your organisation should be listed in the most appropriate categories
to ensure your potential customers and clients can find you.
This step involves searching for suitable categories and then selecting
up to three categories. You will then need to choose a primary or main
category for your organisation’s listing.
Category search
Find appropriate categories by entering one or two words that broadly
defines the nature of your business or group. Don’t be too specific – this
part of Step 2 involves finding suitable categories, not applying your
listing to specific ones.
If your organisation should be listed in several quite different categories,
start with one only – you will be able to find different categories
at the next stage.
| Good examples: |
Poor examples: |
- Weddings
- Automotive
- Bushland
|
- Limos
(entering the word “limos” will prevent suitable
categories appearing such as “Wedding cars”)
- Fixing cars
(“Fixing” is too generic – it doesn’t
help the system choose suitable category options to offer you)
- Chermside Hills revegetation
(too specific to be used as a category)
|
If your search doesn’t match any existing categories, you will
be asked to search again with different terms.
Place your organisation in product and service categories
Once you’ve searched for categories, choose up to three that suit
your business by placing a check in the appropriate boxes.
If you need categories of a different sort, you can search again using
the
Category Search box above the categories. Any categories
you’ve already selected will be retained and new categories matching
your new search will appear. This might be handy if your business sells
quite different products such as souvenirs and photographic supplies.
When you’ve found (up to) the three most appropriate categories
in which to list your organisation, select the “Submit and go to
step 3” button.
Step 3 of 6: Choose the category that best
describes what your organisation does
Of the two or three categories you selected in the previous step, choose
which one best describes your organisation.
If all categories equally describe your organisation, leave this screen
as it is.
If you wish to re-select categories, use your Internet browser’s “Back” button
to reach the previous step.
Select “Submit and go to step 4” to continue.
Step 4 of 6: Assign attributes that relate
to your organisation
Please supply any additional information which may assist users in searching for
and accessing your business.
Leave the fields unchecked or as is, if you do not wish to provide the information.
Select “Submit and go to step 5” to continue.
Step 5 of 6: Enter words and description that
relate to your organisation
This step adds more detail to your listing in the system to improve its
chances of appearing in a search.
Services your organisation provides
Enter between five and ten words that describe what your organisation
does. Enter single words wherever possible. Different terms should be
separated with a comma.
| Good examples: |
Poor examples: |
- Repairs
- Balancing
- Alignment
|
- Fixing
(less precise term)
- Sell fuel
(“Sell” is too generic – it won’t help
the system narrow down options to present to users)
|
Products that your organisation supplies
List any specific products or brands you use or carry. Include niche
or specialty products you carry that separate you from your competitors.
You can choose up to ten items.
| Good examples: |
Poor examples: |
|
- Advice
(too generic – are you a financial planner or a social
worker?)
- Lubricants
(For a chemical wholesaler this might be fine. For an auto
service centre, it mightn’t help customers find you)
|
When you’ve selected your descriptive words, select “Submit
and go to step 5”.
Step 6 of 6: Check the listing details.
Your listing is shown as it would appear in the Directory.
Things to check on this screen:
- the correct primary category (chosen in step 3) appears at the
end of a series of links above your listing
- all details about your organisation are correct
- the phone numbers you provided appear in the order you want them
to
- your physical address only appears visible if you want it to
- where applicable, the map displayed corresponds to your location
Finalise your changes
If your listing requires no further changes, you can exit this process by going
to the ourbrisbane.com Directory.
Your listing will be processed and should appear in the Directory within two working
days. To check the status of your listing or to make later edits to your listing,
go to the Directory section of the Members' Area. The Members' Area can also be
accessed from the Manage your listings link on the Directory.
Editing this listing
If you need to change something about your listing, select the “Edit”
button. You will be taken through Steps 1 to 6 again. All your previous details
should appear to save you retyping them.
Deleting this listing
You can delete this listing by selecting the “Delete” button.
Selecting “Delete” for an existing listing will remove it
from the Directory. Selecting “Delete” for a new listing
will cancel your listing application.
